Why take this course?

This course is ideally suited for line managers, team leaders and supervisors with operational responsibility for managing employee attendance at work.

You’ll develop the skills and knowledge to deal effectively with absence and attendance issues in the workplace, in accordance with the client values of integrity and responsibility.

The course covers topics including the impact of absence issues, avoiding potential breaches of the Equality Act, key principles of the client attendance management procedure, practical implications of family-friendly policies, non-sickness absence and Fit Notes.

What you will experience

This one-day course can be delivered face-to-face at a NESCol campus, online using Microsoft Teams or at a local business premises for up to nine attendees.

The course features a trainer-led presentation, case studies, groupwork, and the opportunity for an informal Q&A session. Interactive role play may also be included.

You will learn:

  • The organisational, operational and cost implications of short term/long term absence and attendance issues
  • The responsibility of the line manager and the organisation in maintaining a duty of care, in line with company values
  • How to apply a planned and consistent approach to the management of absence, minimising the risk of non-compliance with legislation
  • The factors to consider when promoting a fair and consistent attendance culture whilst supporting employees who are genuinely unwell
  • How to prepare for and deliver timely and effective Return to Work meetings
  • How to express an awareness of potential health related issues and when to refer on to HR/Occupational Health.
